1. How did
Sunflower Seeds Press get started and who founded the company?
Sunflower Seeds Press
was
birthed from a seed planted over a decade ago in the heart of Ronda
Friend. The company is named in honor of a dear friend, Carol Ann Lee.
Carol Ann died four years ago but her legacy lives on. Carol Ann, a
farmer’s wife, loved sunflowers. Each year the Lee’s family tradition
was to plant a garden of sunflowers. Sunflower seeds were given out at
Carol Ann’s funeral to represent the principal she lived by daily – seed
sowing! Read more about a book that’s sprouting in her honor entitled
“Momma, I See Something You Don’t See" by clicking on the "What's
Bloomin' Now" link and scrolling down the page.
2. What does
the 'Seal of the Sun' represent on the back cover of the "Down On
Friendly Acres" series? You’ll always know Sunflower
Seeds Press by the “Seal of
the
Sun” displayed on the back of each book depicting the seed of character
that the book sows in a children’s life. These seeds are “seeds of a
different kind” like forgiveness, patience, respect, honesty, teamwork,
etc. Parents, teachers, and administrators can have full faith and
confidence in the character building themes inherent in each book.
Whether its the short chapter books, picture books or beginner reader
books they will all highlight a particular character trait.
3. Wh at's
the significance of the Sunflower Seeds Press logo? The
intertwined sunflowers used in our logo represent the seeds we sow daily
in each other’s lives. This idea came from two sunflowers that randomly
grew in Bill and Carol Ann’s front yard the summer Carol Ann died. They
both decided not to mow them down because it was a symbol of their
hospitality. It was as though the sunflowers (Bill and Carol Ann) were
holding hands welcoming people to their home. Ironically and/or
symbolically the summer after Carol Ann was gone, only one sunflower
grew in its place.
